Crowcombe Court (sleeps 16), Somerset

Shooting parties £275 per single gun per night, hunting parties £250 per single per night, £350 per couple per night, all incl VAT and fully catered.

“There are not many people doing this anymore,” says David Kenyon, of Crowcombe Court, Somerset, a hunt box and shooting lodge in the grand, traditional style.

Within half an hour of 12 packs, including the Quantock Staghounds and the West Somerset, the enthusiast can hunt six days a week, with a hunt host to chaperon the day.

Most parties take the house for two or three days, though week-long bookings can be made.
Fishing is available on the Axe and Tone; stalking can be arranged for a group.
