Norman Thelwell’s famous cartoons have delighted and amused generations with his rapier observations of life in the hunting and shooting fields. Thelwell’s most famous creation is the pony-mad Penelope, with her round and truculent mount Kipper. Anyone who knows ponies loves these cartoons for their charm and excruciating accuracy. So important is his work that “Thelwell pony” and “Thelwell kicks” have passed into common parlance.
