Irish Setter Association celebrates centenary

By Caroline Bankes of The Field

Monday, 28 April 2008

The Irish Setter Association is celebrating its centenary with an exhibition at The Kennel Club, a championship and open show and an international field trial.

The exhibition, which runs until 1 August, features works by canine artists Arthur Wardle and John Emms.

The Irish setter is depicted in a range of media from 19th-century bronzes to Royal Doulton porcelain, jewellery and medals.

The Kennel Club Art Gallery is at 1-5 Clarges Street, Piccadilly, London; for more details call 020 7518 1064.

It is hoped that teams from France, Sweden, Germany and Britain will compete on Shap Fell on 21 July in the Association's international field trial, which will publicise the breed's working qualities.

A centenary dinner at the Shap Wells Hotel will follow. For details call Peter Heard on 01763 281258.
