Belle Isle Castle (sleeps 16), Co Fermanagh, Northern Ireland

£850, incl VAT, per gun for three nights and two days’ shooting, fully catered. Non-shooting guests £300, incl VAT.

Lord Nicholas Hamilton’s 450-acre Belle Isle estate is a beguiling sporting retreat, where driven snipe can be shot from boats and woodcock arrive with the November full moon.

Standing on an island in Upper Lough Erne, the castle is for shooting parties with cottages for those keen to coarse-fish or try their luck with trout and salmon nearby.

The Fermanagh Harriers hunt on Saturdays and some Wednesdays; visitors can join them by arrangement.
