Rifles: Should they be London best or mass-produced? Mike Yardley guides us through the very best rifles on offer
CZ
The most popular CZ centre-fire is the model 550. Features include a forged barrel and a three-position safety. The action has dovetails milled into it to accept scope mounts. The CZ has a long, Mauser-style extractor, controlled feed, adjustable trigger and a cocking indicator. It comes in calibres .22-250, .243, .308, 30-06, 6.5 x 55 and 7 x 64, and is available with detachable mags and screw cut for sound moderators. A 550 Safari Magnum model is chambered in .375, .416, .458 Lott as well as .505 Gibbs. One sees a lot of these in .375, .416 and .458 knocking around Africa. The 550 offers excellent value and can make the basis of an excellent custom rifle. The Safari model, in particular, provides a cheap source of magnum actions for big-game rifles.
