Where to find a seat stick perfect for the field

By Country Queries

Wednesday, 18 April 2012

My Farrier & Mack tripod seat made of oak and leather is much envied by fellow guns, but the firm is now untraceable. I have used my seat for 10 years and find it much safer and more comfortable than a shooting stick. Where can I find another seat?
IDPT, Nottinghamshire

ANSWER

I have spoken to a selection of stockists of similar items and none has heard of Farrier & Mack.

Classic Canes has two models similar to your description.

The Trio maxi seat stick's legs are polished aluminium, the seat is plastic and available in green, black or brown. Its overall height is 84cm and it can take up to 191⁄2 stone.

It is practical and durable and costs £48. The Classic Canes tripod (pictured), which costs £110, has a tan leatherboard seat; the stick is 89cm high and the handle covered in pigskin.

Call Classic Canes on 01460 78222.
