The 'Best Stand' at Masterpiece London is awarded to The Sladmore Gallery for their recreation of Nic Fiddian-Green's studio

Masterpiece is a show like no other and this year has brought the artistic process as well as its product to the Royal Hospital Chelsea.

The Sladmore Gallery has recreated Nic Fiddian-Green‘s studio and been awarded ‘Best Stand’ as a result. The space has been transformed and unlike the orderly displays on either side this stand is crowded with tools and work in progress. The artist’s bench is hidden beneath the paraphernalia of a sculptor’s art and an imposing copper horse’s head – a new medium for him and exciting to see, dominates the stand.

Visitors crowded onto the stand when Masterpiece opened on Wednesday and were able to peer at piles of rivets, moulds and even the artist himself in plaster streaked jeans and getting on with his work between greeting friends and clients. Behind the bench is the early morning view from his studio window; it looks like Surrey at its best.

Masterpiece London runs until 2 July 2014 at South Grounds, The Royal Hospital Chelsea, Chelsea Embankment, Near Sloane Square, London SW3 4SR
